“Of all the scholarships I could have received during senior awards night, this one means the most to me. Memorial scholarships are special because they are created to honor someone’s legacy. Though Michelle was taken from us much too soon, her love for life and her community are still felt and continue to inspire so many. I am one of those who has been touched by Michelle’s example of how to live fully. As I embark on my college journey, I am committed to embodying Michelle’s big-hearted approach to life. I will pursue my passions with gratitude and joy, and will live freely whether that be in the classroom, a research lab, or simply in the dining hall sharing a meal with fellow students. I am truly humbled by this award and honored to be a part of Michelle’s lasting legacy.“

“I feel I learned how to Live Free. In the same way Michelle approached life with a wide-open heart, I came to understand the importance of seeing the good around me. I feel I am better today at soaking in everyday experiences more fully, embracing life as it comes, and finding joy in even the simplest, ordinary moments.”
