AnnaLucy Surrey – 2023 MCSF Recipient

“As I have gotten to know AnnaLucy, she has proven to be one of the hardest working, most personable students I have had the pleasure of working with. I can honestly say that AnnaLucy’s maturity and work ethic are what make her such an amazing student and learner She always seems to choose the ‘right’ path, and displays incredible courage in not falling in line with what everyone else is doing. She absolutely chooses to ‘Live Free’ in the way that she carries herself.”

“I want to be someone anyone can talk to and leave positive impacts upon others. I want to be someone others look up to and see as an inspiration, like Michelle was for me. So, I started getting more involved, through being a leader, mentor, and advocate for what she stood for. I participated in High Five Fridays. I became a freshman mentor and a counselor at my summer camp. I helped create the Fly Free competiong and create the memorial garden. I worked towards leadership positions in the theatre department. But most importantly, throughout everything I do in my life. I try to be myself. To constantly be kind to others. To truly live free.”

“It is an honor to be a recipient of this scholarship. It means so much that I get to continue spreading Michelle’s spirit and sharing the positive impact she has had upon the world. I am just one of many that had the privilege of knowing her. The legacy she left behind truly allows her to live on. Her light still shines so bright. Thank you, and Live Free Like Michelle!”
