2021 – Highlands Graduation

On Monday, May 31, 2021 Highlands High School gathered on the David Cecil memorial stadium to celebrate the graduation of the class of 2021, Michelle’s classmates. Without a doubt, the most resilient class to walk the halls of Highlands.

During the commencement there were several speeches recognizing the accomplishments of the students and the support they received from their parents, the faculty, the administration and the community. One speech stands out and is noted on this website for the reference to Michelle. Salutatorian, Corina Mills, recalls Michelle and the need to cherish each and every moment.

“What makes the class of 2021 so special is that we have learned to overcome struggles with hard work and enthusiasm.”

Before the class of 2021 received their diplomas the principal, Mr. Bertasso, asked for a moment of silence for the classmates we have lost (Michelle Chalk and Austin Davis), and the family members lost to the Covid-19 virus. This was then followed by the senior class choir members to sing “Like a Leaf“, the song commissioned for Michelle.

“The class of 2021 suffered much loss … “

After the ceremony, several of Michelle’s classmates shared with us examples of how they carried Michelle with them through program.

The Highlands class of 2021 will always remain special to us. Thank you for carrying Michelle with you through these four years. We wish you the very best. We are praying for you. #LiveFreeLikeMichelle
