On Thursday, May 10th, during the 2018 HHS Senior Awards night the Michelle Chalk Scholarship was presented.
Congratulations to Ramey Hensley
Ramey submitted an impressive application and was the #1 recommendation by the MCSF screening committee and later approved by the MCSF selection committee.
The following morning a Facebook post by Whitney McKay affirmed that Ramey was the right choice;
The girl who runs the Big Buddy/Little Buddy Mentoring program at Johnson was awarded the first-ever Michelle Chalk scholarship at the Senior Awards night at Highlands. One of my all-time favorite kids to come through Woodfill received the scholarship from the family of one of all my all-time favorite kids to go through Johnson.
I am full of tears and grief, but also incredible joy.
Congratulations to Ramey Hensley for this well-deserved honor. Michelle is smiling up in heaven tonight….and I am too.
Keith and Patty Chalk have never met Ramey Hensley, something they hope to remedy someday soon. What makes Ramey’s selection special is that she was supposed to be Michelle’s mentor during the HHS Freshman Transition on August 3, 2017. Ramey never mentioned this in her application. Patty was aware of it, and since Patty and Keith are not involved in the screening or selection it never factored into the process. Instead, it was a happy coincidence that connects Ramey to Michelle.
